A RARE AND IMPORTANT BRONZE SEAL. Safed, 19th century. Formerly belonging to the organization "CHEVRAH BNEI YEHUDA (Society of the Sons of Judah)". The organization was started in 1884 by Chaim "Nechtas" Bronstein. The purpose of the organization was to bring Jewish settlers to Northern Israel, including Safed and the Golan Heights. They would try to blend in with the local Arab populations in an effort to buy properties. In 1901, the members of the organization were arrested by the Ottoman government and accused of being spies for the British Empire. Somehow they managed to escape. In 1916 Chaim Bronstein was murdered by the Arabs.
