226. A STERLING SILVER AND WOOD PURIM GRAGGER BY ILYA SCHOR. New York, c. 1955. With a wooden handle and body in traditional form. With four applied sterling silver plaques and a sterling silver cover. The first plaque shows a religious Jewish man holding a gragger, the second plaque depicts a Hasidic man stroking his beard, the third is inscribed in Hebrew “Cursed be Haman that wanted my eradication”, the fourth is inscribed “Blessed be Mordecai the Jew”. The front cover depicts Queen Esther and King Achashveirosh. Along the periphery, the excerpt from the Megillah indicates that the King will give up to half of his kingdom to Esther upon her request. Further decorated with a sterling silver finial on which one side shows a a young Hasidic man with a gragger and on the other side, a young woman with a shalach manot. Signed.
