A RARE AND IMPORTANT CHINESE (SHANGHAI) MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE OF TWO JEWISH REFUGEES FROM GERMANY. September, 1945. Magnificently decorated with pairs of birds of different breeds and other Chinese decorations. This certificate documents the wedding of Friedrich and Cilly (Cecelia) Mayerfeld on September 22, 1945. In large words on the top is declared “CERTIFICATE OF MARRIAGE". The text translates to: This certifies that Friedrich, a male, who was born 9/24/1891 in Germany and Cecilia, a female born on December 18, 1888, in Germany were united in marriage on September 22, 1945, at Taishiquilai, no. 14, 315 Nong, Huishan Road, Shanghai, China at 5:30pm (where the wedding took place). Two families united in marriage, forming a covenant in the same ha;l;. A good marriage is forever bound, and the match is truly fitting.
