A RARE TIN CHARITY CONTAINER COLLECTING FUNDS FOR THE HEBREW KINDERGARTEN AND ORPHANS HOME ON THE LOWER EAST SIDE OF NEW YORK. New York, c. 1910. Made in Brownsville, Brooklyn by s. Zarowin of 272 Belmont avenue. The Hebrew Kindergarten and Day Nursery Association was established in 1905 at 29 Montgomery Street as a nursery for the care of children of working mothers. It purchased 35 and 37 Montgomery Street in 1913 for the construction of a three-story building, which was dedicated in May 1914. In November 1918, it opened a ward for children whose mothers had influenza, and also began to care for children whose mothers had died during the epidemic. 3.2” tall.
