Safed, c. 1897. Tablet form. Chased with two lions flanking the decalogue and a spinning wheel indicating the appropriate usage. . The inscription reads: "This was dedicated by Sose Leah bat Simeon Mevad (?) to the synagogue of the Grand Rabbi of Radowce – may his days be long and good, amen – in the Holy City of Safed – may it be rebuilt speedily, in our days – in the year [5]657 [1897]." Rabbi Alter Joseph Hager of Radowce (ca. 1820-1879), scion of an important line of Hasidic rabbis, settled in Safed in 1873. His son Moses (d. 1901) followed him to Safed, arriving in 1897.
