215.A RARE AND IMPORTANT NEOCLASSICAL SILVER PASSOVER COMPENDIUM. Berlin, 1817. By George Heinrich Steffen. With three circular levels with dividers for large round matzos. Mounted with a six column temple centered by a small standing bowl for salt water. The sides are fitted with six detachable shell-form Passover food holders. The upper dome is fitted with a large cup of Elijah. Decorated throughout with pierced borders, palm leaves, shells, grapevines, urns and foliate designs. Fully marked with maker’s mark and city mark on base rim, base of temple, and liner of cup. 27” tall and 16” wide. Sold: Christie’s New York, October 30, 1990 lot 51 for $25,650 not including buyer’s premium. . A pair of torah finials by the same maker are in the Hamburg Museum.
