AN EXTREMELY RARE CARVED WOOD RELIEF. Probably Russian, c. 1890. Hand carved with a farmer carrying a bundle of wheat and a sickle with a mountainous background. Carved out in Hebrew from Psalm 126 “ Then those who have sown in tears shall reap in joy”. ??????????? ??????????.?????????? ????????? This rare carving depicts an early farmer in the Holy Land, carved at the cusp of the turn of the century, of the Zionist movement. 14.5” x 20.2” unframed and 18.5” x 23.5” in the original custom made frame.
