SUMMER JUDAICA GALLERY AND ESTATES
Lot 232:
“OLD SNIFTER” BY DEMPLEY. This figure, which has a mouth as a bottle opener and a fold out corkscrew in the back of his coat, is commonly thought to represent Andrew Volstead, the Minnesota Senator known as the "enforcer" of the Prohibition law. Most probably it actually depicts the 1920 political cartoonist Rollin Kirby’s "Mr. Dry"..6.7" tall.
