A LARGE PEWTER HANUKKAH LAMP. Germany, 19th century. On four claw supports. The large lower shelf designed to hold related supplies and catch oil drippings. The upper shelf holds the oil receptacle which is evenly divided into eight holders. The backplate is engraved with two lions, a Magen David and a menorah. Additionally decorated with a large shell and two cherubs. The lower gallery is engraved with the appropriate phrase “TO LIGHT THE LIGHTS OF HANUKKAH”. The identical model can be found in “TREASURES OF JEWISH ART FROM THE COLLECTION OF JACOBO AND ASEA FURMAN COLLECTION. More examples can be found in the Jewish Museum of London and the Jewish Museum of New York and in the book “LUMINOUS ART HANUKKAH MENORAHS OF THE JEWISH MUSEUM” by Susan Braunstein (page 76, number 21).
