A SILVER AND GOLD MEZUZAH BY ILYA SCHOR. New York, c. 1955. Decorated with a chased gold rabbinical figure below a gold shin which surmounts a pair of central doors inscribed in Hebrew with surrounding stylized animals. Each door is inscribed in Hebrew, “GUARD OUR GOING OUT AND OUR COMING IN FOR LIFE AND FOR PEACE, NOW AND FOREVER”. Also inscribed: “I am small and despised but I have never forgotten your precepts”. Signed I. Schor in English and Hebrew. 5.5” tall and 2” wide. Formerly in the collection of Belle Rosenbaum (purchased directly from the artist) and pictured in her book “UPON THY DOORPOSTS” on page 228. Sold J. Greenstein and Company, Inc.
