IMPORTANT JUDAICA ANTIQUE AND MODERN
Lot 89:
Probably Lemberg, c. 1840. In oval form. Richly chased on the outer rim with the astrological symbols, which in Judaism are known as the Mazalot. The inside is chased with the story of the Sacrifice of Isaac by his father Abraham, the altar; Abraham’s assistants, the sacrificial ram, and G-d’s angel are also pictured. G-d wanted to test Abraham’s love and commitment to him, so he commanded him to sacrifice his only son on the Temple Mount. Abraham wished to comply, however just as the knife was being raised, G-d sent his angel to stop him. The Pidyon Haben ceremony is a process that allows the father to redeem his first born child back from the High Priest, as all first born, theoretically belong to G-d. We related the redemption of the first born to the redemption of Isaac. 13.5" x 10". Marked.
