122. A RARE ASSEMBLED CIRCUMCISION SET

A RARE ASSEMBLED CIRCUMCISION SET. Italy, 17th – 19th century. Includes a very early agate handled knife with a silver ferrule, a rectangular amulet engraved with scrolled cartouche, another amulet in book form, a pear shaped flask, an early powder box (marked with the marks of Giuseppe Fontana, Turin) a shield with a shaped top, a shield engraved with a bud, a small bowl, a pair of silver mounted steel scissors, two glass flasks, two rings which are inscribed in Hebrew, a prayer book for the Bris ceremony dated 1818 and a seal. All housed in a wood inlaid box. 9.7″ wide. The prayer book contains a silver pencil with the monogram of Rafael Lattes whose name is inscribed inside. The seal carries the initials of his son, Benjamin Lattes. Sold Sotheby’s, NY December 2007, lot 54.
