015. AN RARE ASHKENAZ BAIS YOSEF MEGILLAH IN THE ORIGINAL WOODEN CASE

AN RARE ASHKENAZ BAIS YOSEF MEGILLAH IN THE ORIGINAL WOODEN CASE. Jerusalem, c. 1940. Written in the tradition of the “GRA” with 11 lines. The case is carved with Holy Land scenes including the Kotel and Rachel’s Tomb. Further decorated with inlaid wood mosaic design. Inscribed to: “IN RECOGNITION TO THE HONORABLE LORD MORDECHAI KESSLER, WHOSE CANDLE SHOULD BURN, FROM THE ORGANIZATION OF SOFER STAMS OF JERUSALEM”. Mordecai Kessler was recorded as the Representative of the Joint Distribution Committee of Western Canada and was active during and after World War II. The case is 14” long and the klaf is 4.7” tall. Excellent condition.
